Central Vet Clinic supports West Marshall FFA


Dr Aimee Rueber, representing Central Vet Clinic of Melbourne presents a certificate to West Marshall FFA Chapter President, Jake Goecke. For the sixth year, Zoetis is partnering with veterinarians, animal health suppliers and dealer customers to support students by providing a portion of proceeds from eligible purchases of Zoetis cattle and equine products.

2014 Central Iowa Fair

Last week was the Central Iowa Fair.  The West Marshall FFA Chapter had many success all week long. Congrats to Ben Newhouse for exhibiting the champion pair of lambs and reserve senior showmanship.  Ashleigh Metzger had champion purebred ewe and champion Suffolk ewe.  Cody Freland was champion senior showmanship and champion in two dairy breeds. In the beef show congrats to Matt Blink, Madde Green for their excellent job with your steers.  Jared Johnson showed the Champion cow/calf pair.  Also, congrats to Sadie and Samie Simatovich on their heifers and cow calf pairs.  Katherine Newhouse had champion. Chi heifer and was champion senior showmanship in the beef division.  In the swine show Jake Goecke had champion derby barrow and was named champion overall derby pig. Jake also was named champion senior showmanship.  William Ohrt and Jessica Tuttle both did excellent in the horse show.  To finish the fair the supreme showmanship contest brings all the Champion Senior showmanship winners for a round robin finally.  The West Marshall FFA had four of the six spots competing for Supreme Showman.  Cody Freland, Katherine Newhouse, Jake Goecke and Ben Newhouse competed with Katherine receiving the champion award and Jake getting reserve honors.  Way to go to the whole FFA Chapter.

Ag mechanics

Congrats to the West Marshall FFA Age Mechanics team for getting 8th place Gold Rating. Team members were Dale Hilleman, Tyler Casady, Cole Gilmore.  Cole was also the 10th place individual.

Vet Science Class Sews it Up!


The Vet Science class is practicing the proper way to suture and animal.  

Ag Ed 1 Water Movement

Ag Ed 1 students are studying how water moves through the water cycle. Students see how precipitation falls on the surface of the Earth, it does not always percolate
through the soil into the groundwater. Sometimes it flows into lakes, rivers, streams,
and even all the way to the ocean. Landforms, such as mountains, valleys, and
slopes, interrupt and direct the flow of water in predictable patterns. Topography is
the study of landforms and the shape of the surface of the Earth

The West Marshall FFA Chapter had four individuals compete in Sub-district CDE on Monday Feb 24th at Aplington Parkersburg High School. Dylan Childs competed in Ag Sales and received a Silver Rating. Madde Green recited the FFA Creed and received a Bronze Rating. Georgia Porter preformed a Radio Broadcast and received a Gold Rating.  In the Extemporaneous Speaking Ashleigh Metzger received a Silver Rating.  Dylan and Georgia both advanced to District Competition to be held in March. Ashleigh was selected to be an Alternate for Districts.

Farm Business Management Class

It is hard to get a picture of students doing more than working on assignments in class but the Farm Business Management class has been busy developing crop enterprise budgets for different production techniques.  This help students decided how fixed and variable cost change your profit margin.

Ag Ed 1 Soil Texture Lesson

Today Ag Ed 1 students learn about soil texture using pure samples of sand, silt and clay.  Students then learned how to do a Soil Ribbon Test to determine soil texture.

Ag Ed 1: CASE Lesson 4.1.3 Moving the Earth

Students learned today how streams and rivers are formed. They also learned about reduction and addition of soils that are influenced by rain fall.

Students in Vet Science Class learn about depth and perception during an animal handling unit.

Landscaping Class Final Projects

Landscaping class students drafted landscapes of their homes and created 3-D models and bill of materials for the Semester Final.  Each student drew a blueprint, constructed a 3-D model to scale.  After the construction students created a bill of materials and developed a budget for their landscape. The photos show some of the students models.
